Museum of Bell Foundry Mabilon

Saarburg

Awarded by the Ministry of Culture of Rhineland-Palatinate as Museum of the Month March 2024

The former bell foundry Mabilon is the heart of today's KulturGießerei, a socio-cultural center in the tri-border region of Germany, France, and Luxembourg.

Located below the castle and outside the city walls, Urbanus Mabilon founded a foundry in 1770, initiating a family tradition that lasted almost three centuries. Bells were cast in Saarburg, which found their way out into the world. Today, the bell foundry is owned by the city and preserved as a museum, cultural, and meeting place. The museum traces the journey of a bell from the first to the last step in the original workshops, following in the footsteps of Urbanus Mabilon.

The Café Urban, an inclusive meeting café with coffee and cake, invites visitors to take a break. Group meal options available upon request.
