The Saar and Upper Moselle are part of the Moselle wine-growing region. On the steep slate slopes of the Saar, marvellous Saar Riesling wines grow in the best vineyards. The Scharzhofberg in Wiltingen is one of the most famous and expensive Riesling vineyards in the world on the Saar. The relatively small section between Serrig and Konz is home to many well-known wineries and top winegrowers who are listed in renowned wine guides. The Upper Moselle, with its gently rolling slopes, is also affectionately known as the Southern Wine Moselle. The light-coloured shell limestone soils provide the ideal terroir for Elbling, one of the oldest cultivated vines in Europe, as well as for Burgundy wines full of character. The wines of the Saar and Upper Moselle can be tasted in historic wine estates, chic wine shops and modern wine manufactories. Many wineries are worth a visit for their wine architecture alone. The combination of good wines and a beautiful landscape makes the Saar-Obermosel region a perfect wine trip for every wine lover.

The flat river valleys offer ideal conditions for exploring a beautiful part of Germany as well as the neighbouring regions of Luxembourg and France. In addition to the popular Moselle Cycle Route and Saar Cycle Route, other attractive cycle routes such as the Ruwer-Hochwald Cycle Route and the Hunsrück Cycle Route run through the region. Direct cycle paths lead to Trier, Bernkastel-Kues, the Saar Loop in Mettlach, the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg and Metz in France, for example. The Saar-Obermosel region, surrounded by several countries and rivers, offers the best conditions for the perfect cycling holiday. Moselsteig, Seitensprünge, Traumschleifen
The Saar and Moselle are wonderful places to hike. The first four stages of the premium Moselsteig Trail lead from Perl to Trier through the Saar-Obermosel holiday region. Six Moselsteig "Seitensprünge", as the partner trails of the Moselsteig Trail are called, as well as three "Traumschleifen", which are partner trails of the Saar-Hunsrück Trail, guarantee pure hiking pleasure as certified quality hiking trails.
The hikes are as varied as the landscape: Up the steep vineyards and back down into the river valleys of the Moselle and Saar, through deep gorges, idyllic stream valleys and unique nature reserves, from one beautiful spot to another, with marvellous views and unforgettable impressions. We also recommend the hiking packages with luggage transfer.
