Moselsteig Detour Wehrer Rosenberg

Hike with magnificent views of the Moselle and Luxembourg. A special experience is the via ferrata, which leads over steep limestone cliffs and narrow vineyard terraces.
From the parking lot at the Wehr train station, the path initially leads along the Moselle river to the Helterbach mouth. After passing under the railway and crossing the Helterbach, it goes steeply uphill to the Wehr dam and the remains of an early medieval refuge castle. At the Helfanter Mill, the bed of the Spirzinger Bach is crossed on stepping stones. Through the wild romantic Helterbach valley, the path leads to the Wehrer Rosenberg vineyard. The steep ascent with ladders and cable protections is rewarded with a magnificent view at the pavilion. Comfortable downhill, with beautiful views of the Moselle valley, the path then leads back to the parking lot at the Wehr station.

The short but very varied detour starts at the parking lot near the Wehr train stop. The path leads directly along the Moselle river upstream on a meadow trail. From here you can get a good view of the Wehrer Rosenberg vineyard, through which the path later leads. At the Helterbach mouth, the Moselle accompaniment ends and the path passes under the railway line right next to the stream. The detour crosses the stream on an old bridge. Since the circular path has the shape of an 8, the two partial loops meet here. After the "Helterbach loop," the path will return to this spot. The path now leads steeply uphill through the forest. You pass the remains of an early medieval fortification and finally reach the road. The B 419 should be crossed carefully. After crossing, the path soon returns to the forest and ascends moderately. The beautiful trail section finally ends at a forest road. Here the Moselsteig is reached, which accompanies the detour to the Helfanter Mill. At the highest point of the entire circular route, you can also take a short break on a bench at the edge of the forest. The view goes over the Helfanter Mill towards Helfant. In the distance, the two towers of the "Helfanter Dome" can be seen.

The path then leads along the forest edge to the road. Detour and Moselsteig separate here again. The detour leads downhill along the pasture fence to the road underpass. This is a real experience. You walk on large stepping stones through the tunnel under the road, directly in the bed of the Spirzinger Bach. The stepping stones also allow you to cross the stream. The path continues gently downhill over a meadow. Now follows the section through the wild romantic Helterbach valley. The path winds through the dense greenery. The trees are overgrown with mosses and lichens and arm-thick vines hang from the trees. A rest area directly by the water invites you to take a cool break even on hot days.

The lower section in the Helterbach valley leads again on a forest path, reaching the bridge you already know from the way out. Here begins the alpine part of the detour. Over ladders, stairs, and rocky paths (partly with cable protections), the path leads you directly through the vineyards. You quickly gain altitude and the view of the vineyards and the Moselle valley improves with every step. As a highlight, you literally reach a viewing pavilion at the highest point, making it easy to decide to take a break.

The rest of the detour is very comfortable to walk. Slightly downhill it goes through the vineyards. Always with a view of the Moselle valley and also of the vineyards on the other side of the Moselle towards Luxembourg. If you want to put your feet up again here, you can use the installed deck chair. Over stairs and the following path you will quickly reach the train stop and the parking lot again.
