Day of the Open Monuments®: Kanzem (t)raums

13. September 2026

On "Open Monument Day," Kanzem transforms into a vibrant stage for culture and encounters.

Visitors can expect a diverse cultural program from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. at various locations in the village.
Highlights include readings by Stuttgart poet Gerlinde Reinl as well as guided cultural walks with Dr. Roland Augustin from the Saarlandmuseum Saarbrücken, who will introduce the art historical features of the Saar wine island of Kanzem. The program is complemented by musical contributions that will accompany the day in a lively manner.

A fixed part of "Kanzem (t)räumt" is the popular traditional flea market at Kronenplatz.
Between 10 a.m. and 6 p.m., visitors can browse for small and large treasures, bargain, and enjoy the special atmosphere of the village in a relaxed setting.

Schedule
10:00 a.m. Opening

The cultural association introduces itself, taking a look at history. Opening of the flea market at Krahnen and Kronenplatz.

11:00 a.m. Christine Reles – Chansons.
Location: Kronenplatz.

12:00 p.m. Guided walk to art and culture in Kanzem with Roland Augustin.
Meeting point: Corner of Saarstraße – Krahnen.
It is surprising how many unexpected testimonies of art and history are so close together in a small village like Kanzem. But even in the present, art and crafts are alive and visible. The walk focuses on ten stations, all of which are located along the axis of Saarstraße – Kirchstraße. It begins at Krahnen and ends at the glass art studio Leder. It complements the action "Open Monument Day," where various wineries in Kanzem also open their historic buildings. Duration: 45 to 60 minutes.

1:30 p.m. Jürgen Trunczik – Singing and Guitar – sings Reinhard Mey.
Location: Saarstraße.
"In a time where performance, progress, youth, growth, and speed count more than humanity, love, and warmth, there are moments when one leans back, goes within, and lets thoughts flow freely. Images of memory develop, and some situations suddenly appear in a different light. Jürgen Trunczik captures these moments with his stories. He also takes on the roles of others and faces the challenge of embodying this new role with his thoughts and feelings." – writes Jürgen Trunczik in his biography.

1:30 p.m. Margit Schäfer – Workshop: Cyanotypes.
Location: Village fountain. For ages 6 and up.
The Robert Schumann Art Prize winner Margit Schäfer was recently awarded the Monika von Boch Prize for photography. Since 2024, she has been working with the environment-related medium of cyanotype in Kanzem. This is a photographic technique from the 19th century, known primarily through the shadows of plant leaves by Anna Atkins. The technique is simple and works without a lab and darkroom. It only requires water for development and fixation. Margit Schäfer offers participants the opportunity to let light images shine forth in this technique as if by magic.
Registration required: augustinro@aol.com. Material cost contribution: 10.00 €/person.

3:00 p.m. "How it is, it will not remain" – Gerlinde Reinl. Own poems about love and life.
Location: Village fountain. Free access.
The poet Gerlinde Reinl, active in Stuttgart, is originally a linguist and a freelance collaborator at the Academy for Spoken Word. She reads from her lyrical work, which is characterized by vividly condensed language and great empathy. The texts deal with happiness and setbacks in everyday life and in the very special moments of life. They bear witness to the strong observational skills and self-reflection of their creator. Reinl delves deep into the soul: into the dark as well as the light. The texts are dedicated to the ever-present changes of all life – both intended and unintended.
