Discover the Klause on a guided tour!
On a sandstone plateau, high above the Saar, lies the “Klause” of Kastel-Staadt with fascinating views over the Saar valley. The former Celtic-Roman refuge and hermit's dwelling was converted by the Prussian King Frederick William IV. through his architect Karl Friedrich von Schinkel into a burial church for the blind King John of Bohemia. This created one of the most significant examples of Romanesque architecture.

Opening hours 2026:
April 1 - October 31, 2026: Wednesday to Sunday 10 a.m. - 4 p.m., July and August 10 a.m. - 5 p.m. Last admission is 30 minutes before closing. Open on public holidays in Rheinland-Palatinate. Please note that the chapel may be closed at short notice due to weather conditions for your own safety.
