Veronique Gayot & Band
23. October 2026
Blues presented by a singer from the land of chanson? In the case of Véronique Gayot, it works wonderfully. Her unique voice radiates such passion and raw energy that she has a loyal fan base not only in France but increasingly all over Europe. In 2020, she was also a guest live at the legendary WDR Rockpalast. In autumn 2023, Véronique Gayot released her brand-new album Be A Man together with her band.Fluid yet edgy and somehow hardly controllable – that’s how it sounds when Véronique Gayot sings the blues. Alongside the obligatory comparisons with Janis Joplin, the name Robert Plant from Led Zeppelin often comes up as a reference. This may be true. In fact, Véronique Gayot has much more to offer. "That's where soul, skill, and passion come together and celebrate the blues, which is allowed to be a little soulful as well," wrote a reviewer about the debut album Wild Cat released in 2018. The follow-up work, Animal, released in 2021, seamlessly continued in this vein and expanded Véronique Gayot's spectrum towards classic rock and gospel.
While the albums are dominated by original compositions, the live program also includes cover versions like "Gimme Shelter," "Sixteen Tons," or "Personal Jesus," to which the French woman and her band always give a proper rock rejuvenation. By now, Véronique Gayot has not only impressed and thrilled the creators of WDR Rockpalast and their audience. "I experienced a small, petite person who gave everything, both vocally and in performance," can be read in a concert report from autumn 2021. "But the best singer, who also masters the harp excellently, is useless if the guys in the background do not give their best. But they did. The boys also gave everything, whether it was a slow blues or a hearty boogie. The required pressure was there, whether heartfelt or with the necessary power. Everything just fit together."
The musical companions are Yannick Eichert on guitar, Jérome Wolf on bass, and Jérome Spieldenner on drums. Even though the three predominantly act in the background, they do not need to hide. Each one of them is a recognized master of their instrument. The guitarist Yannick Eichert especially provides samples of this, regularly getting the opportunity to celebrate his virtuoso skills in interplay with Véronique Gayot's energetic and powerful voice.
