Winery Sauerweins
Palzem
Along almost 20 km of the Moselle, from Nennig to Rehlingen, we cultivate white and red grape varieties, among which the Elbling, the oldest German grape, accounts for more than 20%. True to our motto "Pure Variety," there are now 20 different grape varieties (Auxerrois, Cabernet Cortis, Chardonnay, Dornfelder, Dunkelfelder, Elbling, Gewürztraminer, Grauburgunder, Kerner, Ortega, Regent, Riesling, Rivaner, Roter Riesling, Sankt Laurent, Schwarzriesling, Solaris, Spätburgunder, Syrah, and Weißburgunder). The diversity of grape varieties reflects the diversity of our region. Our soils in Palzem, near the Moselle, consist of shell limestone. These are foothills of the Paris Basin. They warm quickly, are permeable, and are particularly well-suited for Elbling and the Burgundy varieties. One-third of our vineyards are steep slopes – that means a lot of manual labor: from vine pruning in the winter to canopy management, leaf removal, and halving grapes in summer to hand harvesting in autumn. Our white wines are fermented in stainless steel or wooden barrels. The red wines mature after the mash fermentation for 1-2 years in small barriques.
Tasting at the winery: In our tastings, we cater to your taste individually. Therefore, we look forward to small, personal groups of 2 to a maximum of 12 people. We offer you our diverse wines for tasting in varying amounts.
Other products: Brandies, non-alcoholic apple-quince-grape secco
