Moselle Trail Side Route Wasserliescher Panoramic Trail

Geology, history, and panoramic views.

At Wasserliesch, the Moselle leaves the German-French scarp landscape and enters the Rhenish Slate Mountains via the Trier valley basin. You can clearly see this by the colored sandstone and Muschelkalk layers near the Moselle between Igel and Wasserliesch and by the sharp dividing line of the "Igeler Fault." The start and end point of the hike is the marketplace. From there, the path leads with a pleasant alternation of ascents and descents to the heights between the Saar and Moselle rivers. It connects numerous cultural and natural landscape highlights. Orchid enthusiasts will find one of Germany's richest occurrences in the nature reserve Perfeist. From the heights of the "Alte Lager," the path descends into the Albachtal landscape protection area. Experiencing panoramic views of natural and cultural landscapes as well as varied detailed views, you follow a picturesque path along the stream and return via the viewpoint at the upper Roman road to the starting point.

Cultural and natural highlights: Nature reserve Perfeist with numerous orchid species, special rock formations, Grana Monument, and Löschemer Chapel.
