Cycling fun - experience the border region: Trier, LUX, Sauer and Upper Moselle

The circular tour begins in the Saar-Mosel town of Konz at the Tourist Information. Cycle downstream along the Moselle riverbank to the Roman city of Trier. At the Roman Bridge, cross the Moselle and cycle upstream on the left side of the Moselle, passing Igel (UNESCO World Heritage Site "Igeler Säule"), towards Wasserbilligerbrück. You reach the Sauer confluence. On the German side, follow the Sauer cycle path to Langsur. From there, cross the bridge to neighboring Luxembourg and cycle back on the Luxembourg side to Wasserbillig. On the Moselle cycle path upstream, you reach Grevenmacher. Cross the bridge to Wellen. Back in Germany, cycle on the Moselle cycle path, along the wine villages Temmels, Oberbillig and Wasserliesch, back to Konz. Passing the confluence of Saar and Moselle, you reach the starting point again.

The bike route starts at the Tourist Information (Saarstr. 1) in the Saar-Mosel town of Konz. Along the riverbank (on the right side of the river), you cycle towards Trier. Passing a large adventure playground with a barbecue area and the monastery complex in Konz-Karthaus, you reach the Roman city of Trier on the flat cycle path. At the Roman Bridge (second bridge), you cross the Moselle. On the left side of the Moselle, you cycle upstream, passing Zewen and Igel, to Wasserbilligerbrück. Igel is known for the UNESCO World Heritage Site "Igeler Säule", a 23m-high and relief-decorated grave monument – the largest Roman arrow grave north of the Alps.

From Wasserbilligerbrück, follow the Sauer Cycle Path on the German side to Langsur. Follow Wasserbilliger Straße to the bridge. Cross the Sauer and cycle back on the Luxembourg side to Wasserbillig on the Upper Moselle. Along the Luxembourg Moselle shore, you cycle to Grevenmacher. A small town with a quaint old town, remains of a medieval fortification, and an exotic butterfly garden. Cross the bridge to return to Germany. Via Wellen and the idyllic wine villages of Temmels, Oberbillig and Wasserliesch, you reach the Saar-Mosel town of Konz again (in Oberbillig, the first electric solar ferry "Sankta Maria II" operates, connecting the German side with Wasserbillig in Luxembourg. Wasserliesch is known for its special orchid population. A themed trail guides you through the "Perfeist" nature reserve). Passing the confluence of Saar and Moselle (tip: listening point), you reach the Tourist Information again via the Saar bridge. In Konz, we recommend a visit to the open-air museum "Roscheider Hof", where on 21 ha of open space and 4000 sqm of exhibition area there is much to discover.
