Winery Distillery Peter Greif

Tawern

The ancestors of the family can be traced back to 1770, and the foundation of the house was laid in 1832. The vaulted cellar is over 200 years old. Until 1995, agriculture, livestock farming, and viticulture were the sources of income, and since then, and to this day, solely viticulture with bottled wine marketing and distillery.

Currently, 10 hectares of vineyard are cultivated on the vineyards by the Upper Moselle and Saar. In outdoor operations, Peter Greif places great value on near-natural cultivation. Herbicides are completely avoided to protect insects and bees. Instead, green manure and mechanical soil cultivation are employed. Modern wire framework systems have the advantage that work can be done quickly during the growing phase, whether mechanically or by hand, ensuring that the grapes always have enough air and sunlight.

The vineyard sites on Muschelkalk in the Upper Moselle are Fellericher Schleidberg, Temmelser St. Georgshof, and Oberbilliger Hirtengarten, as well as on slate at the Saar Wawerner Goldberg and Wawerner Ritter. Additionally, you will find sparkling wine, bottled wines, Viez (apple wine), fine spirits, and Elbling mustard here.
