Maybebop

Some people still think that a cappella is a dusty domain for bland musical performances without impact. They have miscalculated with MAYBEBOP! Around 25 years after their founding, they are fresher than ever and delightfully subvert every expectation.

What this band has been doing professionally for a quarter of a century is far more than mere vocal acrobatics. It is a confrontation with the essence of musical expression, distilled to the purely human: the voice. The results are their own German-language compositions that elegantly navigate between sharp-witted satire, profound reflection, touching empathy, and absurd comedy.

MAYBEBOP is intellectually agile and politically unambiguous. They stand for tolerance and openness, and their lyrics are a clear rejection of any form of populism. Their declared intention is not only to sing about the social and good but to actively promote it. Their idealism is enjoyably down-to-earth and firmly anchored in reality. Their fundamentally likeable, self-ironic interaction with one another is balm for every audience soul.

MAYBEBOP resists entrenched program routines. The setlist is put together anew every evening, with the audience having a say in what is sung: brand-new songs meet celebrated classics, interaction meets spontaneity, curiosity meets a love for risk. Each concert evening is like a surprise bag, celebrating the magic of the moment and, thus, nothing less than life itself.

Why can MAYBEBOP be so effortlessly spontaneous? Quite simply: they have practiced! Every sung note is precisely calibrated. The sound is an audiophile masterpiece that makes the invisible audible. The lighting design is a dramatic extension of the musical discourse. The video show sets highlights and becomes the visual echo of the pointed lyrics.

MAYBEBOP stimulates the brain, touches the soul, and flatters the heart. It is never predictable what the four have in store. Only in essence can one be sure of what one gets: four guys. Four microphones. Nothing else.
