Day 1:

Arrive at pre-booked overnight accommodation in the city of Konz, at the confluence of the Saar and Moselle. The open-air museum of Roscheider Hof is worth a visit. Stay overnight in Konz.

Day 2:

 Sunny hillside vineyards (30 km)

The first stage of the Saar bike trail features steep shale hillside vineyards, small, romantic wine-producing towns and an ever-changing river landscape. The unspoilt Wiltinger Saar with river jetties, rapids, water lilies and grey heron colonies is a designated permanent conservation area. There are numerous sights to discover in Saarburg:. including the castle complex, waterfall in the town centre, Saarburg’s “Little Venice”, the bell foundry. Overnight stay in Saarburg.

Day 3:

Nature discovery on the Saar Loop (30 km)

Upriver from Serrig there are no more vineyards. Instead, as you cycle through the Saarland stretch of the Saar the landscape changes: the valley becomes narrow, with densely wooded quartzite rock and green river floodplains. The highlight of this nature experience is the "Saar Loop". In Mettlach you should take time to visit the Villeroy & Boch exhibition and take a look around the shop. Overnight stay in Mettlach.

Day 4:

To the city of the Sun King (40 km)

On the stretch to Saarlouis is cider-producing town of Merzig, known in Germany for its well-known advertising slogan, "Merziger ist Herziger". The journey continues along the sculptor symposium through Dillingen with Dillinger ironworks and on to Saarlouis. Louis the Sun King founded this city with French flair in 1680. A tour of the city is recommended. In the evening the old town comes alive. Overnight stay in Saarlouis.

Day 5:

Saarland’s industrial history (30 km)

The bike stage to Saarbrücken leads through Völklingen to the Unesco World Heritage Site of the Völklinger ironworks, the European centre for art and industrial culture (it’s highly recommended that you set aside some time for a visit). The destination is the state capital of Saarbrücken, a border city with French flair, a baroque cityscape and numerous sights and museums. Overnight stay in Saarbrücken.
