4 days mule packing in the highlands between the Saar and Moselle
Hiking with the mules Bilbo and Gandalf is a very special experience. Both mules are very patient and obedient companions, who can carry luggage, provisions and even a tired child now and again. Mule packing is rather leisurely and brings with it a slower pace – something of a luxury in these hectic times. But these tours are anything but boring, because apart from the unusual companions, you can get talking to lots of people.
Arrive at pre-booked overnight accommodation in Mannebach.
Roman temple in Tawern (10 km)
After breakfast you will be given some training on how to care for the mules and the correct way to pack the animals. Then you can head off. The destination for the first hike is the
temple district in Tawern, which is located in the middle of the forest on the Metzenberg. On a clear day, you can see as far as Trier. Hike back to Mannebach. Overnight stay.
Through the Saargau on the Upper Moselle (16 km)
This round trip leads along country roads through the fertile plateaus of the Saargau. Before the destination of Nittel is reached, vineyards and the view towards
Luxembourg set the scene for the return leg of the hike along the Moselle. Hike back to Mannebach via Onsdorf. Overnight stay.
3 nights' accommodation/breakfast in hotel, hire of 2 mules including mule equipment and rucksacks, picnic blanket and first aid kit, third party liability insurance for the mules, comprehensive description of the tour and hiking map.
