7-day bike loop tour with luggage transfer
Route: even, except for days 2 and 3 where there are some moderate ascents
Arrive at pre-booked overnight accommodation in the city of Saarburg (castle, waterfall, museums, historic old town). Overnight stay.
Up to France (54 km)
The first stage leads through the romantic Saar valley, via Mettlach (Villeroy & Boch), around the famous Saar Loop and on to Merzig. Along the sculptor symposium, “Stones on the Border”, you’ll reach Manderen in France (Malbrouck Castle). Overnight stay.
Our neighbours in Luxembourg (41 km)
You’ll cycle through small French hamlets to Perl (D). Here you will cross the Moselle and into Schengen (L). Following in part the track of the old Roman road, the route leads to the capital of Luxembourg (government district, casemates, old town, cathedral). Overnight stay.
The beauty of the Müllerthal (49 km)
You’ll cycle straight across Luxembourg through Junglister to the entrance of the Müllerthal. The bike trail leads through beautiful landscape with running streams and bizarre rocks on to Echternach (with a mediaeval atmosphere and narrow laneways, market square and basilica). Overnight stay.
Through the Sauer Valley (50 km)
On the Sauer bike trail the route leads to Wasserbillig, to the mouth of the Sauer. From there it continues along the Luxembourg part of the Moselle to Wormeldingen. Here you’ll cross over the river to Germany and cycle to the wine town of Nittel (Nitteler Fels nature reserve, wine trail). Overnight stay.
Two river valleys – Upper Moselle and Saar (30 km)
Through small wine towns on the Upper Moselle, past steep limestone rocks, you’ll reach Konz at the confluence of the Saar and Moselle. You’ll now enter the Saar valley and cycle back to Saarburg, the departure point for the trip. Overnight stay.
