Wellen (population 753)
To the right of the Moselle lies the mining town of Wellen, opposite the Luxembourgian city of Grevenmacher. The plunging mountains provide wonderful views of the romantic Moselle valley and Luxembourg. Since the canalisation of the Moselle at the beginning of the 60s, two weirs with locks and loading equipment for the limestone, dolomite and cement works in Trier have been located here. To this extent the small industrial town, which even got its own train station back when the rail system was first opened in 1878, has clearly set itself apart from its surroundings.
Accommodation in guesthouse and holiday homes, Moselle bridge to Grevenmacher (L), angling, bowling, skating, barbecue facilities, wine tasting, festival on the last Sunday in July.
