Wasserliesch (population 2.281)
Wasserliesch, also known as the gateway to the Upper Moselle, lies to the right of the Moselle between Konz and Oberbillig. On the plateau of the Liescher Berg is the “Perfeist” nature reserve, where rare species of orchid can be found. The mining of sandstone on the Liescher Berg and shipping on the Moselle along with agriculture proved to be early sources of income. From the town centre, up the Liescher Berg towards the Löschemer Kapelle, an old pilgrimage destination, leads a road with 14 stations of the cross dating from the 19th century. On a hill between Wasserliesch and Konz is the Grana Memorial, dedicated to the victorious General Grana, who defeated the French troops in the Battle of Konzer Brücke in 1675.
